About Tank Batches
A tank batch is an uninterrupted storage period in one tank resource for a certain quantity of product. Inflow comes from one or more coupled process batches, all of which must be the same product. Outflow goes to one or more coupled process batches, which may consist of one or more products. Various small inflow and outflow periods may be represented in the planning board as one large segment.
Why should you want to create a tank batch whose outflow is not coupled to batches? The most common reason is that you know that a tank already contains a certain level of stock, and you want to consider that when you start scheduling. This does not work for inline batches. You will only be able to enter this kind of surplus quantity if the option Allow Surplus in Tank Batches is enabled in the relevant process step.
From the Tank Batches overview window, to view a selection of batches in the planning board, select batches and click the button:
These tabs are displayed in the Tank batch entry dialog box:
- General tab - This tab allows you to enter generic information about the tank batch.
- Inventory Profile tab - This is not formally part of the entry procedure. It shows tank level during batch inflow, outflow, or both, depending on which option you select, and makes it easier for you to understand what is going on than reading batch statistics. You will find it is particularly useful for buffer tanks (where your inflow and outflow occur concurrently). You can also set default tank representation in each planning board view to display tank levels instead of batches.
- Claim and Allocation tab - This tab allows you to assign resources and utilities needed for this batch along with the related details.
- Status Attributes tab - You can use the same status for two different tank batches but have different status attributes by using the Status attributes tab.
- Custom Fields tab - This tab allows you to enter values for various fields, that you may have defined when defining preferences.
