About Process Batches

A batch is an uninterrupted activity that is performed between two points in time, occupies one or more resources and creates a product. A process batch pertains to production. A distinctive characteristic is that the inflow of the batch is qualitatively different from its outflow in that some characteristic of the product is different. It is, in effect, a different entity, whether it is an intermediate or end product in the production flow.

If a process batch is subdivided over several processes, the parts assigned to individual processes are called parallel batches. Each parallel batch occupies one resource. Because of the different characteristics of each process, the setup and changeover segments in the parallel batches belonging to a process batch may be different.

There are two types of process batches, flow and batch.
