Alea Ad-hoc reports

Alea Ad-hoc reports are similar to Ad-hoc reports but support different functions and formulas and can be created only on OLAP data sources. You can create an Alea Ad-hoc report with the Alea Ad-hoc Report dialog or by opening the default view of a cube and editing. You edit an Alea ad-hoc report it by dragging dimensions onto the worksheet and by marking different elements for display.

SeeMarking elements for display.

Alea Ad-hoc reports are views of a selected cube. Two dimensions form the columns and rows of the report and the remaining dimensions form slice-dimensions. Any dimension can be used in any position and so provide different views of the cube data. And two or more dimensions can be used at one time in the column or row position.

Change the view of the data by using different dimensions to form the columns and rows, and slice-dimensions, and by selecting different elements from the dimensions. Each dimension is represented by a button. Clicking a button opens the Dimension Browser where you select different elements from the dimensions. You can display single elements from each slice-dimension and multiple elements from each of the column and row dimensions.

You can rearrange the dimensions (for example, exchange the row or column dimension with a slice-dimension) by drag and drop in a report, or in the Define Alea Ad-hoc Report dialog.

You can drill down the column and row dimensions. For example, with a Time dimension in the column position, you could drill down from years, to quarters, to months etc.

See: Navigating in Alea Ad-hoc reports.

Note: To create Alea Ad-hoc reports, the OLAP Server add-in must be enabled.

See OLAP add-in.

You can create an Alea Ad-hoc report from the Cubes and Data Areas dialog or from the Define Alea Ad-hoc Report dialog.

  • The Define Alea Ad-hoc Report dialog has options to specify the initial view of the data.
  • The Cubes and Data Areas dialog enables you to base a report on a data area, as well as on a cube.

Whichever method you use, you can rearrange the report to provide the required view.
