Attaching cell notes and comments

You can attach notes to data cells of Alea Ad-hoc reports. You add notes in the Edit Note dialog. You can add notes to every cell of a cube.

In this topic, 'notes' refers to notes added in Alea Ad-hoc reports or in formula reports created by converting an Alea Ad-hoc report. 'Comment' refers to Excel comments added by right-clicking a cell and selecting Insert Comment.

In Alea Ad-hoc reports, cells which contain notes are indicated by a red triangle in their top-right corners and the note is displayed as a tooltip.

Notes can be a link to a file, or a URL. You can open the file or URL from the Edit Note dialog.

In formula reports created by converting Alea Ad-hoc reports with the DBGET or DBGETC function, cells with notes are not indicated and no tooltip is displayed. But the Edit Note dialog and its contents are displayed if you double-click a cell containing a DBGET or DBGETC formula.

You can use the Edit Note dialog to add notes in formula reports which are created from Alea Ad-hoc reports. Notes which you add in the formula report are displayed in the source Alea Ad-hoc report.

You can right-click and select Insert Comment to insert comments in any formula report. Comments added in this way are indicated by a red triangle.

Microsoft Excel comments in formula reports are displayed. But notes added in the Edit Note dialog are not displayed in the formula report.

Notes added in an Alea Ad-hoc report are not displayed if the report is converted to a Values report.

You cannot add notes in a Formula report which was not converted from an Alea Ad-hoc report, or which was converted to a Values report. But you can insert comments. Right-click a cell and select Insert Comment.
