Advance ship notices

Advance ship notices (ASNs) are electronic documents suppliers send to alert customers to a shipment and its contents.

In Supplier Exchange, ASNs are typically generated from shippers, but can be imported. When imported, a shipper file is generated and the ASN is automatically sent to the customer. This import enables suppliers to utilize Supplier Exchange demand fulfillment, bar code printing, and other modules without abandoning an investment in other software.

If a shipment is cancelled after an ASN is sent, suppliers can then send a cancellation ASN to keep the customer informed. When an ASN is cancelled, the shipper from which it was generated remains.

ASNs include the shipment expected arrival, in addition to notifying the customer of the shipment and its contents.

Note: Shippers can include the Standard Carrier Alpha Code (SCAC) information in the ASNs sent to customers. The SCAC code represents the carrier as defined by the National Motor Freight Association.
