Container information on a shipper

The type of containers and serial numbers you must enter depends on the customer's configuration. The customer can require containers, master and detail containers, or detail containers only. Your customer may require serial numbers and lot numbers for master containers, detail containers or both.

The Create Shipper process establishes default packaging from the packages created using the Package Maintenance option in the Setup module. When a shipper is created, container information defined using the Package Maintenance option is defaulted. You can review the container information, modify the data, if required, for unique shipping scenarios and publish the shipper as an ASN.

For a selected part, the package data is defaulted to the shipper in this order of preference:

  • Package for which the customer defines a Facility and a Ship To combination. Only one package template can be created with the specified combination.
  • Package for which the supplier defines a Facility and a Ship To combination. Only one package template can be created with the specified combination.
  • Package for which the customer defines a Facility and All Ship To combination. Only one package template can be created with the specified combination.
  • Package for which the supplier defines a Facility and All Ship To combination. Only one package template can be created with the specified combination.
  • Package for which the customer defines All Facility and All Ship To combination. Only one package template can be created with the specified combination.
  • Package for which the supplier defines All Facility and All Ship To combination. Only one package template can be created with the specified combination.

For a selected part, the Create Shipper process creates the default package, if package data is not defaulted in the Shipper module

Default containers can be overridden if you are shipping in a container not normally used for the part. In addition, if you are shipping in Mixed containers (and your customer allows you to do so), you can group the containers before publishing the shipper or printing bar code labels. Only master containers flagged as Mixed can be grouped. You can change the flag by editing the master and detail containers.

You can define the template code for the container in the Package Maintenance page in the Setup module.

For a part, you can create only one template with this combination:

  • A facility and a Ship To
  • A facility and All Ship To
  • All facility and All Ship To

In case the packaging template is defined for the container, the template is defaulted to the Shipper, in the above specified order of preference.

When the packaging template is not defined for the container, you can define container data for the shipper using the Containers page in the Shipper module.
