Searching for elements and attributes

In large dimensions, it may be time consuming to scroll through the dimension to search for a particular element or an attribute. In the Create/Edit Dimension dialog you can quickly find elements and attributes.

To search for elements or attributes:

  1. Expand all elements or attributes because the search only searches displayed elements.
  2. Click Find.
  3. Enter your search criteria in the Search for field.
For example, to find an element that contains the string "reg", enter *reg*. Click Start Search . The Dimension Browser displays the first element found in the hierarchy that contains this string. Use the Mark All button if you want to mark the search results.
    Note:

You can also use wildcard characters for the search. But note these differences in using these characters:

To search for elements, you can use the question mark (?) to replace single characters and the asterisk (*) to replace parts of strings. You may use any combination of these wildcard characters for the search of elements.

To search for attributes, you may only use the asterisk (*), either at the beginning and at the end, or only at the end of the search string.

To search for numerical attributes, you must not use wildcard characters.

Attributes are not case-sensitive by default. But in Infor OLAP Administration you may enable case sensitivity for attributes.

  4. To find the next element that contains the text, click the Next or Previous buttons. Or, click the Mark All button in the Search dialog. The Dimension Browser then marks all elements that contain the text.
