Defining rule elements

Rule elements comprise other elements which are used as arguments of the rule. Before you create a rule element, ensure that all the other elements have been created.

To define a rule element:

  1. Create or edit a dimension to open the Create/Edit dimension dialog.
  2. Select the element to define as a rule.
  3. Click Dimension Rule or right-click and select Rule Element.
    The Edit Dimension Rule dialog is displayed.

  4. Define the rule.
  5. Click OK.
    If there is any error in the syntax, OLAP Server will try to indicate the source of the error.
  6. Optionally, right-click the Element Name column and select Show Rule Text Column. The definition of the rule is displayed in the Rule Text column.
    Note: Changes made to dimensions or new dimensions are only permanently saved to disk when you save the entire dimension or when you save the dimensions in the Dimensions and Subsets dialog. You can experiment with changing dimensions, without making the changes permanent.
