Creating attribute-based subsets

An attribute-based subset contains a subgroup of elements defined by attributes of the same kind. For example, a product dimension might have an attribute table which indicates the product manager for each product. You could create subsets of the products for which each manager is responsible.

To create an attribute-based subset:

  1. Open the Dimension Browser for a dimension.
  2. Click Subset Wizard.
  3. Click Attribute-based Subset.
The Define Attribute-based Subset dialog is displayed.
  4. Select Attribute Table 1, 2 or 3 from the tabs at the left.
  5. From the Field description list, select the attribute on which to base the subset.
  6. Select a condition from the list in the Condition column.
  7. Enter your selection criteria in the Input of the selection criteria field.
For example, the Field description might be Name, the condition, Equals and the selection criteria the name of a product manager.
  8. Click Continue.
The second dialog lists all the elements that meet your selection criteria.
  9. Click Continue.
  10. In the final dialog, select the Dynamic subset or Static subset option button (Subsets).
  11. Click Finish.
The Subset Wizard is displayed again.
  12. Click the Save or OK button.
The Save Subset dialog is displayed.
  13. Specify a name for the subset.

To make your subset accessible to other users, select the Public subset check box.

To display the list elements non-hierarchically, select Flat view . Flat view also enables users to rearrange, by drag & drop, the order of the elements in a subset in the Dimension Browser.

If you select the Navigation subset check box, you can expand consolidated elements within the subset and see all their elements, not only those specified when the subset was created.

To change a dynamic subset to a static subset, click Static subset.

    See Subsets.
