Advance ship notices

Advance ship notices (ASNs) are electronic documents suppliers send to alert customers to a shipment and its contents.

In Supplier Exchange, ASNs are typically generated from shippers, but can be imported. When imported, a shipper file is generated and the ASN is automatically sent to the customer. This import enables suppliers to use Supplier Exchange demand fulfillment, bar code printing, and other modules without abandoning an investment in other software.

If a shipment is cancelled after an ASN is sent, suppliers can then send a cancellation ASN to keep the customer informed. When an ASN is cancelled, the shipper from which it was generated remains.

The SCAC (Standard Carrier Alpha Code) information can be included in the ASNs. The SCAC code (Standard Carrier Alpha Code) represents the carrier as defined by the National Motor Freight Association.
