Adding, editing, and removing shared text elements

Note: Only shared text elements of type General String can be added to and removed from the table of text elements. You cannot edit the unique names of system text elements.

To add and remove shared text elements:

  1. Select the Text Elements node underneath a project.
  2. Click the Text Elements tab.
  3. Click Texts and select General String from the drop-down list.
  4. Click New Text in the toolbar.
  5. Specify this information:
    Unique Name

    Specify the unique name of the text element. When you create a shared text element, the default unique name is SharedString combined with a consecutive number, which can be overwritten. When you confirm your entry, the uniqueness of the text element's unique name is assured automatically.

    Description
    Specify the description of the text element.
    Name
    Specify the current name of the text element. When you create a shared text element, the default name is SharedString, which can be overwritten. The text element names are used in the Table of Names and Texts in the Application Studio Hierarchy Designer where you can manage custom hierarchies. See the Application Studio online help for further information on custom hierarchies.
    English, German, etc.
    When you create a shared text element, the cell of the default language column contains "New String". Click the cells of the language columns to specify the translations of the text element:

  6. To edit an entry in the table of text elements, double-click the cell of a column and specify the changes.
  7. To delete a shared text element, click the row of the text element and click Delete in the toolbar.
