Text elements

In a Repository database, languages are stored on project level. You can add languages to a project explicitly. By default, the English (en) language is the only available language in a newly created project.

Translatable text elements are also stored on project level in a Repository database. Each text element can have translations in the available languages within a project. Text elements are categorized in 2 basic groups:

  • System text elements: Text elements that depend on other objects. These text elements are all object-linked localized names and descriptions. System text elements are automatically created when the owning object is created and they are deleted when the owning object is deleted. These text elements cannot be shared among objects (1:1 relation) and generally should not be used anywhere else. System text elements are represented by specific text types such as Folder Name, Report Name, Dashboard Name, or Content Connection Name. A list of text element types is shown here:

  • Shared text elements: Text elements that can be used in multiple places and shared by various objects, mostly by Application Studio reports or dashboards. The text type of shared text elements is General String.
Note: In the repository database, you edit texts in all categories, but you can only create and delete shared text elements. Each project contains other shared text elements, which can be used in different Infor BI applications such as Infor BI Application Studio or Infor Business Intelligence Dashboards.

To administer the shared text elements of a project, click Text Elements under the project. The tabs Languages and Text Elements are displayed in the view on the right:
