Table of text elements

The table of text elements shows these columns:

Column Description
Unique Name

The unique name of a text element is the first column in the table. To show or hide the column, click Select Visible Columns in the toolbar. By default, the column is shown.

You can edit the string in the Unique Name column. When you confirm the changes, the uniqueness of the text element's unique name is assured automatically.

The column is refreshed to reflect possible unique name changes in the database whenever you edit a unique name.

You can edit only unique names of shared text elements. These text elements are of type General String. Unique names of system text elements cannot be edited, because their unique names are bound to the owning object.

Description Shows the description of text elements. To show or hide the column, click Select Visible Columns in the toolbar and select Description. By default, the column is shown next to the Unique Name column.
Name Shows the current name of text elements. The column is hidden by default. To show the column, click Select Visible Columns in the toolbar. The column is shown next to the Description column. The text element names are used in the Table of Names and Texts in the Application Studio Hierarchy Designer where you can manage custom hierarchies. See the Application Studio online help for further information on custom hierarchies.
String Type Shows the text element type. The column is hidden by default. Only shared text elements of type General String can be added to and removed from the table of text elements.

See Text element types.

English, German, etc. Shows the language columns in which you can specify translations. The languages are defined on the Languages tab.
