Alert tasks

A task consists of one or more processes, that execute in sequential order. For example, a task to print your workbook would consist of a single process. In comparison, a task to save your workbook, to move it to a different folder, then to send an e-mail, would consist of three processes.

Use the DataLink Server Alert Task Definition dialog box to create a task, or to manage the processes that make up your task. You can also specify whether other users can manage or execute your task.

These are the two sections of the Alert Task Definition dialog box:

  • Task Details: Use this section to provide information about the task, such as a description, and whether other users can modify it.
  • Processes: Use this section to manage the task processes.

Show shared tasks

When you create an Alert Task with the option Allow other users to view this task, the task is shared. This enables you to switch between your own tasks and tasks shared by other users.

If you cannot see all tasks, then ensure the Show Shared Tasks option is enabled.

Refresh task list

If you cannot see any newly created tasks created by yourself or others, then refresh the task list to retrieve an updated list from the DataLink Server database by clicking the refresh icon.
