Limitations on mixing Repository schema versions

You can activate several interfaces in a repository and so mix software versions on one repository:

Example 1: Keep an older OLAP software version and update Application Studio

Example 2: Update OLAP software version but keep an older Application Studio version

Both OLAP and Application Studio installations install Repository Administration and either could be used to edit all objects in the repository.

Note:  It is important that you use the correct repository administration.

In the case of Example 1, this means:

  • Use the older Repository Administration, installed by the OLAP setup, to edit the OLAP settings in the repository
  • Use Repository Administration, installed with newer Application Studio installations to edit Application Studio settings in the repository.

In the case of Example 2, this means:

  • Use the newer Repository Administration to edit OLAP settings
  • Use the older Repository Administration of Application Studio to edit Application Studio settings.
Note:  If you do not use the older Repository Administration ofApplication Studio, you might make settings which Application Studio does not interpret correctly. Some settings can be set in the Application Studio full client and in Repository Administration. This risks conflicts and can corrupt the repository in a way which prevents future repository schema updates.
