Using the Dimension Browser
To open the Dimension Browser:
- Click Dimensions in the Database group on the ribbon. The Dimensions and Subsets dialog is displayed.
- Double-click a dimension. The Dimension Browser for that dimension is displayed.
These are the buttons of the toolbar in the Dimension Browser:
Button | Description | |

Show Top-Level Elements | Display all elements which have no parents (usually the top-level elements of the dimension). | |
Show All Elements | Display all the elements of the dimension in hierarchical or non-hierarchical order, depending on the display order. | |
Key Query | Analyze the values in the dimension to find which elements will yield non-zero values
in combination with the active elements of the other dimensions.
This button is enabled only when the Dimension Browser is opened from an Alea Ad-hoc report. |

Hide Lowest Level | Hide all elements at the lowest level currently displayed. | |
Show Next Level | Show all children of the elements currently displayed. | |
Quick Selection | Displays a further toolbar: | |
Mark All Elements | Mark all elements displayed in the dialog. | |
Remove Marks | Clear any marks. | |
Mark Elements Without Parents | Mark all displayed elements which have no parents. | |
Mark Elements of a Given Level | Mark all elements at a specified level of the hierarchy. The number of buttons matches the number of levels in the hierarchy. | |
Mark Elements of Level 10 or Higher | If the selected dimension has ten or more levels, mark all elements that are displayed and that are at those levels. | |
Mark Base Elements | If the selected dimension has ten or more levels, mark all base elements. | |
Keep Marked Elements | Display only elements that are marked. This is the same as right-clicking the dimension name and selecting | in an Alea Ad-hoc report.|
Cut Marked Elements | Remove the marked elements from the list of displayed elements. | |
Undo | Undo the preceding action. | |
Find | Search for elements or attributes and marks thos elements that match the search. | |
Next, Previous | Enabled after a search. Use the | and buttons to scroll through the result of the search.|
Flat View | Display the dimension structure non-hierarchically. | |
In flat view, the toolbar has additional buttons: | ||
Sort Ascending/Descending | Sort the displayed elements in ascending or descending order. | |
Hierarchical View | Resets the dimension structure to show elements hierarchically. | |
The toolbar contains four additional buttons if attributes are displayed. Click the attribute table icon and select an attribute table. | ||
Edit Attribute Record | Open the Edit Attribute Record dialog. | |
Delete Attribute Record | Delete an attribute. | |
Configure Columns | Control the order in which attributes are displayed in the browser and whether an attribute or element name is displayed in a report. | |
Save Layout of Attribute Table | Save the display of the attribute fields in the Browser. | |
Subsets | ||
Save Selection as Subset | Click To mark individual elements, click at their left so that a tick is placed next to them. Click a tick to remove it. To mark elements according to their level in the hierarchy, click the Save the elements displayed in the browser as a static subset. Click button. before clicking . Otherwise, the displayed elements, and not the marked elements, are saved.Name the subset in the Save Subset dialog. To make the subset public, select the check box. |
The hierarchy of the dimension is expanded and every element is displayed.

Subset Wizard | Open the Subset Wizard.
You can generate subsets (or use information from cubes or attribute tables to generate subsets). The drop-down list next to the button shows all subsets. To show a subset, select it from the list. To return to showing all the elements of the dimension, select Dimension from the list. |
