Editing rules with Microsoft Excel

You can edit cube rules in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.
Note: You can edit rules in Excel only if you use a local server. To edit rules on an OLAP Server server, use the Edit Cube Rule dialog.

To edit rules in Excel:

  1. Click Cubes in the Database group on the ribbon.
  2. Right-click the cube which contains the rule to edit.
  3. Select Rules > Edit in Excel.
An Excel worksheet displays the rules.
  4. Select the cell which includes the rule to edit and press F2.
  5. Edit the rule and press Enter.
  6. Click Save.
    Note:

Changes made to rules or new cube rules are only permanently saved to disk when you save the entire database or when you save the cubes in question in the Cubes and Data Areas dialog. You can experiment with changing a cube rule, without making the changes permanent.

Each rule ends with a semicolon. This is necessary because an Excel cell can contain up to 32767 characters. If a rule is larger than that limit, you can spread the rule out over several cells. End each cell with ">>%". End the rule with a semi-colon.
