Processing data from cubes

To process data from a cube you need a Microsoft Excel file (containing functions that process the data) in addition to the source cube. You run the import with the Excel file open.

Sample import files are supplied.

See Sample import files.

To process data from a cube:

  1. Ensure that only the Excel file used to process the data is open.
The import process recalculates each open report after reading each record. So, if other reports are open, this can greatly increase processing time.
  2. Set Excel calculation to Manual before importing data.
Click Options in the Extras group on the ribbon. Click the Calculation tab and select Enable Manual calculation in Excel when Office Plus starts.
  3. Select More > Process Data.
  4. Select Cube from the Process from list.
  5. Select the cube from which to process the data.
The dimensions of the cube are listed. You can process all elements of each dimension or select specific elements.
    1. To select specific elements of a dimension, click the tick icon next to the dimension.
    2. Mark the elements to process and click Keep Marked Elements.
  6. Click OK.
You can use conditions to limit the values which will be imported.

By default, Suppress empty cells and Only base elements are selected. Deselect them to import empty cells and consolidated elements. This may significantly increase the duration of the import.

    1. To keep a log of processing errors, select Log file.
By default, the log file is in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents\Infor\BI\OLAP\Transfer.
  7. Click OK to start processing.
A progress bar opens and the first record is displayed in the first line of the worksheet. Use the Step and Continue buttons on the progress bar to process the file one record at a time or all at once. It may be useful to validate the first few records of an import by clicking Step. When you are satisfied that the data will be imported correctly, click Continue.
Note: To increase performance during import, the progress bar and the number of processed data records is updated every 1000 records.

To reduce the processing time, close all open worksheets except the import worksheet. OLAP Server recalculates all worksheets in the selection after processing each data record. No other worksheets can be activated during processing.

You do not need to specify all elements of all dimensions in the cube from which you import data. If some elements are not specified in the record, you can specify them elsewhere in the import sheet,or directly in the DBSET of AT.SET formula.
