Panes

Office Plus has six panes which can be displayed and repositioned on-screen. The panes contain information and functions to help you create and manage reports:

The panes are:

  • Database Structure
  • Report Catalog
  • List Designer
  • Ad-hoc Report Designer
  • Preview
  • Properties

Each pane has a button on the Office Plus ribbon. Select which panes to display by clicking the respective button on the ribbon. You can change the positions of panes.

If they are selected, the Database Structure and Report Catalog panes are docked at the left of the screen by default. And, if selected, the List Designer, Ad-hoc Report Designer and Preview panes are docked at the right. The Properties pane floats but can be docked at either side.

Once you have selected a left-docked pane, a right-docked pane, or both, the Left-docked Panes and Right-docked Panes options are enabled on the Panes group of the ribbon. You can then use those options, or the F11 and F12 keys to hide and display the panes as required.

Docking a pane left or right

You can dock two or more panes on either side of the screen. You can specify whether left and right-docked panes are displayed side-by-side, one above another, or as tabs. Or you can float the panes and drag them to any position.

Moving a pane

To move a pane, click its heading and drag it to the required position. If you drag a pane to the left or right of the screen, and no other pane is already docked, an arrow icon is displayed half-way down the screen. Drag the cursor over the icon and drop the pane to dock it. If there is already a docked pane, a five-position selector icon is displayed. Drop the pane on the left, right, up or down arrows to specify where in relation to the existing pane, the pane should be positioned. Or, drop the pane on the center of the icon to display the panes as tabs.

If required, you can move, for example, right-docked panes to the left, or display all panes at one side of the screen.

Undocking a pane

To undock a tabbed pane, click its tab and drag it. You can then dock it to a different position or close it.
