Report Catalog

The Report Catalog is a pane of the Repository Explorer. Report catalogs contain reports, style sheets, templates, and report books. There is a folder for each. You can create subfolders, up to a total of eight folders and subfolders.

See Repository Explorer.

You can create reports based on style sheets and templates, and you can create the style sheets and templates.

Reports

A report is a spreadsheet sheet in Application Studio which contains objects, values, scripts, etc. In a report, you can switch between View Mode, Debug Mode, and Design Mode. You design reports in Design Mode.

See Design Mode, Debug Mode, and View Mode.

Style sheets

Style sheets (see Styles and style sheets) specify the visual appearance of reports which are based on them. They enable you to create multiple reports with consistent fonts, colors and cell formatting. Use them to create multiple reports in a corporate style or, with report links, to create a single report in different styles for different audiences.

See Report links.

Report templates

Report templates specify the functionality of reports which are based on them. The provide a way for users without advanced skills to create and edit complex reports. Report templates are also used to create database-independent reports. These are reports which are portable between different data sources without needing to be redesigned.

See Report templates.

Permissions

Users with Report Designer permission have a different view of the Report Catalog from users with View Mode permission:

  • For View Modes, the Report Catalog is a hierarchical structure of reports and folders from which to open reports to view. Reports open on a single-click or a double-click, according to the behavior specified in the Settings dialog. Reports open in the currently selected view
  • Report designers see additional folders in the report catalog and can right-click to access a menu of functions.

See Design Mode, Debug Mode, and View Mode.

When you double-click the catalog or a folder, a list of common tasks is displayed. They all have the Manage permissions entry. See Managing permissions.
