Displaying the Repository Explorer and List Designer panes

The panes you will use most are the Repository Explorer (left-docked) and List Designer (right-docked), both of which contain further panes. Use the View menu to activate or deactivate these panes.

Repository Explorer and List Designer pane options

The Repository Explorer and List Designer panes can be docked, floating, tabbed, auto hidden or hidden. To select an option, right-click the heading of the Repository Explorer or List Designer and select from the menu.

Docked
The pane is fixed at the left, right, top or bottom of the screen. If required, you can float one pane and dock it on the other so that both panes are displayed on tabs at one side of the screen.
Floating
You can drag the pane where required and resize it. Or, you can drag it to the left, right, top or bottom of the screen and re-dock it.
While you drag a pane, direction arrows are displayed at the four edges, and at the center of the screen. To dock in a new position, drag the pane and drop it when the cursor is over one of the direction arrows. If required, you can then select the Docked option to fix the pane in position.
Tabbed
You can stack the panes within a pane on top of each other and click a tab to access them.
Auto hidden
The Auto Hide option displays a label at the side of the screen. The pane to which it relates is displayed only when the cursor is passed over the label. Select the Auto Hide option or click the Auto Hide icon on the heading of the pane.
Hidden
You can hide the panes. To display the panes again, click the appropriate button in the Standard toolbar.

The Repository Explorer

The Repository Explorer contains:

  • Report Catalog: a hierarchy of folders and reports.
  • Database Structure: a hierarchical view of database aliases, cubes, dimensions, lists etc.
  • Accessories: Displays global and report variables, custom hierarchies and variable lists.

The Repository Explorer can also display a Properties pane, which details the properties of objects selected in the Report Catalog, Database Structure or Accessories.

The List Designer

The List Designer enables you to specify server lists. There is a separate list designer for client lists.

The List Designer contains five panes which enable you to specify which elements are used in the lists displayed in reports. The panes are:

  • Structure Selection
  • Filter
  • Sorting
  • Attributes
  • Advanced

The List Designer can also display the Preview pane.

Note: There is no Attributes pane for custom hierarchies
