Distributing Tank Batches

  • If necessary, new batches are created.
  • This function may remove batch codes and optional remarks.
  • Process step constraints are taken into account.
Note:  One-to-one constraints limit the current heuristic in improving product flow.
  1. Select one or more tank batches belonging to the same process step and tank group in the planning board or the overview window.
  2. Specify a distribution strategy:
    Option Description
Fill large, longest empty, tanks first
Fill small, longest empty, tanks first
Fill large tank first This option minimizes tanks and tank batches by combining as many batches as possible into one tank.
Fill small tank first This option considers storage capacity first.

The first two options above can be used in case of several similar-sized tanks. Using one of these options, the tank that has not been used for the longest period of time is selected.

The following example illustrates the difference between the last two strategies.

This table shows the tanks and their maximum volumes for the example.

    Tank Max volume
    T1 50.000
    T2 10.000
    T3 5.000
    T4  2.000
    T5 2.000

The table below shows the tanks that will be allocated for both strategies for some sample quantities. This is assuming that all tanks are available.

    Quantity 9.000 10.000 12.000 15.000
    Strategy 2 3 2 3 2 3 2 3
    T1         X   X
    T2 X   X X   X   X
    T3   X           X
    T4   X       X
    T5   X
  3. Click OK to save your changes and close the window. You will see the result in the planning board.
