Distributing Process Batches - General Tab

  1. In the planning board, select process batches.
  2. Select Schedule > Distribute Process Batches.
The Distribute Process Batches dialog box is displayed. The General tab is selected by default.
  3. From the schedule batches list, select as soon as possible or just in time.
Note: When scheduling batches, batches are not allocated. If you select batches that are on more than one resource, the batches are distributed per resource.
  4. From the until or from list, select a starting or finishing time. This list varies depending on the option that you have selected in the previous step. If you select other, then you can specify a date and time.
Note:  During the calculation of the start of first batch or end of last batch option, downtime is considered.
  5. To define the order of batch placement, use the sequence list.
This list contains the process step's defined sequence code, latest time, and earliest time, the current sequence, and the other sequences that you have defined.
  6. To apply time restrictions, use the not before and not after options.
These restrictions depend on whether you want to schedule process batches as soon as possible or just in time.
  7. If you have selected current time in the not before or not after list, you can define cycles. Select the cycle checkbox and specify a cycle.
Process batches are scheduled as soon as possible or just in time starting at their beginning or end. If space is exhausted, batches can fall outside these periods.
Note: If you have selected the always keep within cycle checkbox in the Distribute Process Batches window, then batches are forced within the cycle even if overlap occurs.
  8. If you want the selected sequence not to be interrupted, even if the sequence contains gaps that are large enough for other batches to fit in, select strict sequence (do not fill gaps).
  9. To continue the sequence on a resource, select start where stopped ('+' and '-' only).
In this example, a sequence is defined on the sequence codes A, B, and C. The sequence code of the last batch on the resource is B.
    • If you select this check box, the sequence is C, A, B.
    • If you clear this check box, the sequence is A, B, C.
  10. To keep the split batches linked, select link split batches.
  11. In the minutes field of the Min batch duration section, specify a value.
If the resulting batch is shorter than this value, the batch is not split.
  12. Click OK. Alternatively, continue populating tabs in this window.
