Connecting and Disconnecting Batches

Connect Process Batch Inflow

This command is accessed from the Batches menu. Using this command, you can empty tank batches into a single process batch. You can control the sequence of tank batch emptying and the quantity that you want to take from each tank batch.
  1. In the planning board, select a process batch with coupled inflow shortage.
  2. Select Batches > Connect Process Batch Inflow.
The Connect Process Batch Inflow dialog box is displayed. In the grid, the first column displays an asterisk for tank batches that have been created using the default production step. The last column shows a bullet symbol for the tank batches that are already connected.
  3. You can select the coupled inflow product with inflow shortage for the selected process batch. You can connect one product only. If you select a different product, the dialog box is reset for the new product.
After you have selected the coupled inflow product with inflow shortage, the tank batches with valid surplus are displayed. These tank batches are ordered by the end of the filling, standing, or offset time. Tank batches with the flag "surplus not allowed" are not displayed.
  4. In the list of tank batches with surplus, you can drag and drop the tank batches to change the order in which they should fill the process batch.
  5. After you have specified the tank batch outflow order, you can manually enter a value in the "linked qty" column or use the Propose button. If you use the Propose button, the shortage quantity is distributed over the tank batches with surplus.
  6. To preview the distribution in the planning board, click Apply. To close the dialog box without changes, click Cancel. To close the dialog box and apply the changes, click OK.

Connect Process Batch Outflow

This command is accessed from the Batches menu. Using this command, you can top up existing tank batches from a single process batch with surplus. You can control the sequence of tank batches to be topped up and the quantity with which you want to top up each tank batch.
  1. In the planning board, select a process batch with surplus.
  2. Select Batches > Connect Process Batch Outflow.
The Connect Process Batch Outflow dialog box is displayed. The main product for the selected process batch with surplus is displayed. The tank batches that can consume this main product and that can be increased are displayed. In the grid, the first column displays an asterisk for the tank batches that have been created using the default production step. The last column shows a bullet symbol for the tank batches that are already connected.

You can increase a tank batch if its quantity is less than the resource maximum. The tank batches are ordered by start inflow.

  3. To include, in the list, the tank batches that do not have available capacity but that can be connected, select the show all usable tank batches check box.
Connecting surplus to these tank batches results in violating the maximum capacity constraint.
  4. To create a new tank batch to which the surplus can be connected, click Add Batch.
  5. To create a new tank batch to which the surplus can be connected, click Add Batch.
For example, you can use this button if the surplus quantity is larger than can be added to the current list of batches.
  6. In the list of tank batches that can be increased, you can drag and drop the tank batches to change the order in which they should be topped up by the process batch.
  7. After you have specified the tank batch inflow order, you can manually enter a value in the "linked qty" column or use the Propose button.
The linked quantity can be larger than the available quantity.

The Propose button is enabled only if at least one batch is present in the list. If you use the Propose button, the surplus quantity is distributed over the tank batches that can be increased.

  8. To preview the distribution in the planning board, click Apply. To close the dialog box without changes, click Cancel. To close the dialog box and apply the changes, click OK.
