Create Group Box when Creating Inflow

This table shows the options that are enabled for each of the methods that you can use to create inflow:

Methods Use Surplus in Work Area Only / From Any Alternative For ... Stages / Until Stage ... Schedule Batches Option Buttons
Create New Batches   + +
Use Surplus in Tank Only +
Use Surplus +
Use Surplus and Create New Batches + + +
Increase Existing Network

Options available for methods used to create inflow:

  • Inflow can be created for a number of stages or until a certain stage (see above table). If you opt to number of stages or until a certain stage (see above table). If you opt to create inflow for a number of stages, the for... stages drop-down list box shows the maximum number of stages or levels that precede the stage for which inflow is to be created. For example, if a maximum of four preceding stages are present, the drop-down list box would contain the items 1, 2, 3, 4 and All.
  • The until stage drop-down list box contains all stages that precede the selected batches. In this case, batches are created only for those stages that are directly or indirectly connected to the selected stage.

In the Create group box, you can make a selection regarding how you want inflow to be created:

  • Select the create new batches option if you want to ignore any surplus available in existing batches and create new batches to cover your inflow requirements. Existing batches are only taken into account in scheduling the new batches.
  • Select the use surplus in tank only option if you want to use up surplus in tank batches and not create new batches. This allows shortages at the level to which you are creating inflow, but it is a simple way to empty the system.
  • Select the use surplus option if you want to first use up surplus in tank batches and then create new tank batches in order to use surplus in process batches. No new process batches are created.
  • Select the use surplus and create new batches option if you want to use up any surplus and to create enough new batches to satisfy your inflow requirements.
  • Select the increase existing network option if there is an inflow end stage batch for the order, and the quantity of the batch does not equal the quantity of the order. Creating inflow with this option expands the batch to meet the requirements of the order. It creates inflow for the end stage only. This option is only available when creating inflow for orders.
Note:  Constraints such as minimum batch sizes mean you may have unused products waiting in the stage from which you want to create inflow.
