About Dragging Batches

You can move batches on the planning board by clicking on a batch and dragging it. You cannot move locked batches. If you drag batches in time or to different, compatible resources, time links are recalculated and other batches are adjusted automatically. You can determine the warnings you receive in signaling when creating a view. Batches without inflow or outflow are not subject to this kind of warning. You cannot drag tank batches in time. Their start and end times are automatically adjusted when you move the associated process batches.

In this screenshot, the arrows indicate the earliest and latest time to which to drag the batch.

Red and green symbols are used in the resource axis of the planning board to indicate which other resources can be used for a selected batch. Dragging a batch to another resource assigns it that resource's standard changeover, although you will still need to recalculate changeovers. A red symbol indicates that a tank batch cannot be moved to Tank 1 and a green symbol indicates that a tank batch can be moved to Tank 2, for example. These symbols are visible when you click on a batch in the planning board.

Process batches can be dragged to a resource in another resource group by pressing the Alt key + clicking and dragging a batch. When doing this, the batch will be assigned the next resource group after the current one, as defined in the process step. If you move batches to another resource or resource group, any modifications made by hand to the capacity, the setup, or the filling time are replaced by the capacity, setup, and filling time of the new resource group.

You can only move tank batches to other valid members of the same tank group. You cannot drag them in time.

When you drag batches in the planning board, changes in the network are updated while dragging. For example: flow source -> flow pushed through -> flow pushed. This is called real time propagation.

Cursor Symbols

Two types of cursor symbols are used to provide more information:

  • Resource symbols - While moving a batch, these symbols are displayed on the resource axis and indicate if the resource constraints match the batch characteristics.
  • Drag symbols - While moving a batch, these symbols are displayed at the sides of the batch and indicate the range in which a batch can be moved.

Symbol Meaning

You can change both the time and resource allocations of the batch.
You cannot change the time allocation or the resource allocation of the batch.
