About Batches

A batch is an uninterrupted activity that is performed between two points in time and occupies one or more resources. There are two types of batches: process batches that pertain to production and tank batches that pertain to storage.

Periods of downtime are also referred to as batches, but for obvious reasons they do not behave like the above. For example, they do not have inflow or outflow.

Batches can also be distinguished on the basis of the type of process steps in which they are generated:

  • In a coupled batch, the process batch receives coupled or decoupled inflow from one or more tank batches in the same process step, and it sends coupled outflow to one or more process batches in the same process step. Coupled batches can be created with create inflow for a selection of batches or orders.
  • A decoupled batch delivers its main product to an inventory point. There is no coupled outflow to another batch or order and, therefore, no time link for the outflow. However, there can be coupled inflow from other batches.

Deleting a Batch

The Delete function, accessed from the Batches menu, deletes selected batches, along with their inflow, from the schedule. Locked inflow batches or batches with surplus cannot be deleted unless you change their status or status attributes.
