Language IDs

Use this form to specify the location of this translation information for a language and country:

  • The language ID, the language code, and a description of a language and country
  • The table containing a language's text strings used in the user interface
  • The subdirectory containing translated Help files
  • The path and filename used to override the default help location designation for a particular application
  • The language key used to display messages
  • The font used in printing reports in a language
  • The date format and numeric format used in printing reports in a language

You can customize language IDs to create a mixed-language user interface. For example, you could revise the default language ID fr-FR (French [France]) by setting the Help subdirectory to en-US (English [United States]). With the language ID fr-FR, the user interface would display in French, but the help would display in English.

Note:  Before you upgrade to a new version, ensure that you do not have duplicate language codes or other bad data. Otherwise, the upgrade will fail.
