Open Client Interface

Open Client Interface (OCI) is the solution for providing managed data in Birst user-friendly data stores to Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) clients such as Microsoft Excel and Tableau. The Birst ODBC Driver provides connectivity to the clients.

The ODBC Driver is supported on 32- and 64-bit Windows 7 and newer.

The high-level steps for integration are as follows:

1. Account Administrators enable the OCI product for the account on the Feature Provisioning page of the server. This is either a Birst administrator for Cloud accounts or the accountadmin user for Appliances.
2. Account Administrators enable user access to the feature on the User Management page of Birst.
3. Users obtain and install the Birst ODBC Driver and configure its Birst data sources on their Windows machines.
4. Users connect and start using Birst data in ODBC client software. See Example ODBC Connections.
