Restoring cube data

Data that has been lost due to the program ending abnormally, or before a cube is saved, can be restored. The ability to restore lost cube data depends on a transaction log for each cube in an OLAP Server database. If a transaction log exists and data is lost, data is restored automatically. However, the transaction log is not enabled by default. It must be activated manually.

The transaction log is used to ensure against data loss in the event of a power failure or other disaster. The log file records every transaction made to specified cubes in separate log files. As soon as a change to the database is made, an entry is written into the log file. This contains these entries:

  • The address of the cell where the change occurred
  • The value after the change
