Filtering with a regular expression

We will create two regular expressions to exclude 2006 to 2009 and 2010 to 2014.

To create the regular expression:

  1. In Design Mode, ensure that the Show/Hide Right-docked panes button is depressed.
  2. Click the Period hyperblock so that the List Designer is enabled.
  3. Open the Filter pane of the List Designer.
  4. Click New Filter.
    The Filter pane displays 'Caption less than'.
  5. Click Caption less than.
  6. From the Filter By list in the Filter Settings area at the bottom of the pane, select Caption.
  7. From the Filter Type list, select Regular Expression.
  8. From the Condition list, select Does not equal.
  9. Click the browse button in the Regular Expression field.
  10. In the right-hand pane of the Edit Custom MDX, specify 200[6789] and click OK.
  11. Click New Filter.
  12. Click New AND Operation.
  13. Click Caption less than.
  14. From the Filter By list in the Filter Settings area at the bottom of the pane, select Caption.
  15. From the Filter Type list, select Regular Expression.
  16. From the Condition list, select Does not equal.
  17. Click the browse button in the Regular Expression field.
  18. In the right-hand pane of the Edit Custom MDX, specify 201[012345] and click OK.
  19. Click Apply changes to the list.
    In View Mode, the list elements All Years, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005 are displayed. You can drill down the years, quarters and months. The year 2006 and subsequent years are not displayed.
