Launching associated functions from a control desk
You can initiate a batch process from a control desk. However, you can only initiate processes that are associated with the type of data you have extracted, that is the data set. The batch processes available are presented in a drop down list.
If the control desk being processed was itself initiated by another system function, the only batch process available will be 'Return to calling application'.
Some of the associated batch processes, or functions, will allow certain business rules to be overridden prior to launching the chosen process. For example, Generate Picking List would normally only process whole orders, so for this function one of the override flags would be, "Allow part orders to be picked".
On signalling that it is OK to launch the function, the appropriate program is initiated to process the selected data. When control returns from the function, a simple message is displayed if it completed successfully, otherwise the selected rows are displayed along with their corresponding error/information message.
On return from launching a batch process, the actions carried out against the selected lines can be reviewed along with any error reporting.
