Expand

Expand is similar to Summary and Transaction Drill Down, but Expand (+) and collapse (-) icons are displayed on the left of the worksheet, enabling you to view the Expanded results or only the totals. For example, if a summary link returns a total base amount and you Expand on account code, then each account code is displayed individually, with the corresponding summary link details for each account code. The total for each column is displayed underneath.

Click Expand (+) to view summary link details by account code, and the corresponding totals, or click collapse (-) to view only the totals. Expand operates on selected, or all, summary links in a single row of the worksheet.

You can also Expand on existing Expanded items.

To define an Expand:

  1. Open a worksheet containing one or more summary links or create a new summary link, and select a value.
  2. Click Expand in Drilldown on the toolbar.
The Expand definition dialog box is displayed. In the Filter section of the dialog, the data filter items specified in the summary link are displayed. The Output pane lists the items that are output by the summary link.
  3. Select a non-calculated Data Output item on which to Expand.
For example, if the summary link outputs the base amount, then you can add account code to the Output pane. Expand will then create a dependent worksheet for each account code identified in the summary link.
Note: If a large number of dependent worksheets will be created by the selected Data Output item(s), then a message appears, requesting confirmation to proceed.
  4. Click OK.

A child worksheet is created, displaying the summary link details for each item on which the Expand is defined.

Optionally, you can Expand further by running an Expand on the results in the child worksheet. The number of levels you can Expand by is restricted by your DataLink.

All child worksheets created by Expand are included in the Current Drill Path, in Drill Path Manager.

If you delete the worksheet containing the summary link, then all child worksheets generated by Expand will also be deleted.

Note:  If the original query definition is modified, then you must re-run Expand before saving the breakout child worksheets in the Drill Path.
