Breakout

Breakout creates dependent worksheets for each item on which the breakout is defined. For example, if a summary link returns a total base amount and you breakout by account code, then a dependent worksheet is created for each account code identified in the original Summary Link query. Each child worksheet displays the corresponding summary link details for that account code.

You can also breakout on existing breakout items.

To define a Breakout:

  1. Open a worksheet containing one or more summary links or create a new summary link, and select a value.
  2. Click Breakout in Drilldown on the toolbar.
The Breakout definition dialog box is displayed. In the Filter section of the dialog, the data filter items specified in the summary link are displayed. The Output pane lists the items that are output by the summary link.
  3. Select a non-calculated Data Output item on which to breakout.
For example, if the summary link outputs the base amount, then you can add account code to the Output pane. Breakout will then create a dependent worksheet for each account code identified in the summary link.

Selecting multiple Data Output items creates a dependent worksheet for each combination of Data Output items. For example, selecting account code and debit/credit marker results in two worksheets for each account code: one for debit marker and one for credit marker.

Note: If a large number of dependent worksheets will be created by the selected Data Output item(s), then a message appears, requesting confirmation to proceed.
  4. Click OK.

A child worksheet is created for each breakout item, or combination of breakout items.

Optionally, you can breakout further by running a breakout on the results in the child worksheet. The number of levels you can breakout by is restricted by your DataLink.

All child worksheets created by breakout are included in the Current Drill Path, in Drill Path Manager.

If you delete the worksheet containing the summary link, then all child worksheets generated by breakout will also be deleted.

Note:  If the original query definition is modified, then you must re-run Breakout before saving the breakout child worksheets in the Drill Path.
