Setting the default language

In the Set Default Language dialog, you can align a selected language so that it can be set as the default language. When you open the dialog, the selected language is checked whether it complies with the rules for a default language:

For all system strings (object names), an explicit translation must exist in the designated default language. The translations of object names must not be empty.
If the rule is fulfilled, you can click the button Make Default Language to set the language as default language.
If the rule is not fulfilled, the dialog shows the reasons why the language cannot be made a default language. You can fix the issues and set the language as default language.

Note: If you work with a project in the current repository that supports the previous language management, this message is shown when you open the Set Default Language dialog: Project languages and strings will be aligned to work with a single default language. This actions cannot be undone. After setting the default language, the new language management that requires one single default language will be applied to the project.

To set the default language:

Select the Text Elements node underneath a project.
Click the Languages tab.
Select a language in the work space and click Make Default on the toolbar. The Set Default Language dialog opens. The selected language is shown in the Default Language drop-down list. You can change the selection, if required.
In the dialog Set Default Language, the reason is shown why the selected language cannot be set as default language:

Empty object name translations

Shows the number of missing object name translations.

Other empty translations

Shows the number of missing general string translations.
Under Fix Empty Translations, you can fix issues if system string translations are missing:

Delete empty object descriptions.

Shows the number of system strings with missing translations in all languages and offers to delete such strings. If you delete these strings, the owning objects are looked up in the repository (reports, folders, books) and disconnected from these strings and then the strings are deleted from the repository. To delete empty object descriptions, click Delete. The action is performed immediately. The numbers for missing translations at the top of the dialog are updated accordingly.

Copy missing translations from this language:

Provides the list of compatible languages as translation sources, that is, languages from which translations can be copied to the current language. The list offers only languages from the same language family. For example, if the default language should be German (Austria), you can copy missing translations from the German language. Whenever you select a language here, it is shown how many non-empty translations it contains in relation to empty translations in the current language and therefore, how many translations will be transferred to the current language. To copy missing translations from the selected language, click Copy. This can be repeated for any available source language as required. The numbers for missing translations at the top of the dialog are updated accordingly.

This way, you can align the translations to fulfill the rule for default language translations. In such a case, the button Make Default Language is enabled and you can set the language as default. If the actions you perform in the dialog do not align the translations, you must manually add missing translations to the string table as required.
When you have fixed the issue, click the button Make Default Language. Click Close.
The new default language is shown on the Languages tab in bold italic letters.
