Formula wizard

With the Formula Wizard you insert Office Plus, Alea and predefined MDX formulas into formula reports. It has two steps. In the first, you select a formula category and a formula from that category. In the second, you specify the arguments of the formula.

You can open the Formula Wizard from the Tools menu on the Extras tool bar, or open the Wizard at the second step by right-clicking a cell in the worksheet and selecting a category and formula from the context menus.

To create a formula with the Formula Wizard:

  1. Select Tools > Formula Wizard.
The Category pane displays the available categories of formula.
  2. Select a category.
The Formula pane lists the formulas in the selected category. If you click a formula in the Formula list, a brief description of the formula is displayed.
  3. Select the required formula and click Next.
  4. Specify the arguments of the formula.
Depending on the type of argument, you can select arguments from a drop-down list, from the Select Elements dialog by clicking a browse button adjacent to the argument field, or by specifying the argument directly in a text box. The browse button is available for selecting elements as arguments. If the hierarchy to which the element belongs has not been specified (in a CELL.GET formula for example) the Select Hierarchy dialog is displayed. When you have selected the hierarchy, the Select Elements dialog is displayed.
A report might already contain items that can be used as arguments of the formula. For example, a cell might contain the current database alias or cube name. Click Autofill. Office Plus attempts to populate the argument fields with the cell references of the arguments it finds. The Autofill option populates the fields with absolute cell references. For example: $A$1. If you have manually entered relative cell references, Autofill converts those references to absolute references.
Note: It might not be possible to populate all arguments with the 'Autofill' option. For example, if the hierarchy names are the same as the dimension names.
