Rearranging the sequence of elements

You can drag elements from one position to another. Hover the cursor over an element until a red rectangle is displayed. Click and then drag the element.

The order in which you define the elements is not necessarily the order in which they will be displayed in the Dimension Browser. The Dimension Browser usually shows the elements in hierarchical order. You may change your dimension options so that the list of elements is displayed in the order in which you defined the elements. It is important to remember that the order in which the elements are displayed in the Edit Dimension dialog governs the index number which each element receives in the dimension. This is important when using functions such as DE.NAME, DE.FIRST and DE.NEXT which rely on the sequence of elements defined in the Edit Dimension dialog.

You can also move elements with Cut, Copy and Paste.

If the elements to be moved are only one level above or below the element in question, use the Indent Left and Indent Right buttons.

Note: Changes made to dimensions or new dimensions are only permanently saved to disk when you save the entire dimension or when you save the dimensions in the Dimensions and Subsets dialog. You can experiment with changing dimensions, without making the changes permanent.
