Connecting without an existing repository registration (initial log-on)

When you select a Designer database for which no repository has been registered, a message prompts you to specify a repository.

  1. Click OK. The Repository Settings Wizard opens.
  2. Specify the user name and password of the administrator for the Designer database.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Select the repository from the drop-down list Choose a repository and click Connect.
  5. In the dialog Connect to repository select the authentication system and specify the log-on information of the administrator for the repository database.
Note: You must log on with a user who is the user management administrator and the repository administrator. Only those OLAP Server permission managements are displayed whose users have the OLAP Server administrator permission. To avoid problems when connecting to and working with the Designer repository database, we recommend that you map the log-on information for the SQL Server database that is used in the Designer repository connection string to the dbo user.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Select the project and the OLAP Server Permission Management.
  8. Select the check box Synchronize users and roles while logging on to start synchronization of users and roles between Repository and Designer when you log on to the Designer.
  9. Specify a password to delete the connection information, if the selected repository is no longer available. If you do not specify a password, this function will be disabled.
  10. Click Next.
  11. Select the type of synchronization between Designer and Repository. The options are:
    Synchronization options

    • Overwrite users and groups: The names of the users and groups remain. The properties of the Designer users and groups overwrite those of the Repository users and groups.
