Creating serial numbers

You can use serial numbers to trace items through the manual inventory allocations process. This may be required, for example, for perishable goods. To apply a serial number to an item the Serialized box must be checked in the Item Master (ITM) record. You can also use Serial Number Formats to predefine the characteristics of the serial number.

Serial numbers are used with Manual Inventory Allocations and must be created before they can be assigned to a serialized item as part of the allocations process.

If a serial number format is used and this contains a number stream, you can use the Autocreate function.

  1. From the Action menu within Manual Inventory Allocations select Create Serial Numbers. This displays the Create Serial Numbers form.
  2. Specify this information:
    Item Code
    Source Transaction Type
    Source Transaction Reference
    Source Transaction Line
    Serial Number Format Code
    If assigned to the item.
    Receipt Quantity
    Numbers Created
    The total quantity of serial numbers created for this receipt. This is updated as the numbers are created using this form.
    To Create
    The quantity of this receipt that you have not created serial numbers for. This is updated as the numbers are created using this form.
    Serial Number
    The required serial number. If a serial number format has been applied the predefined information is shown. For example, a prefix. If a number stream is included in the serial number format that part of the serial number is created automatically. For example, a sequential number.

    You can enter miscellaneous information in the following fields:

    Miscellaneous Date
    Miscellaneous Text
    Miscellaneous Number
  3. Save your changes. If a serial number format is used and this contains a number stream, you can use the Autocreate function.
    Uwaga: The serial number format must not contain a user input section if the Autocreate function is required.

    From the Action menu within Create Serial Numbers select Autocreate. This displays the Create Serial Number - Enter Quantity form. Enter the required quantity of serial numbers to be created and click OK. The serial numbers are created and shown on the Create Serial Numbers form.
