Creating external transfer profiles

You can use External Transfer Profiles to process a data file in one format, from an application external to SunSystems, and save the processed data in a new file with a different format. You can use all the facilities of Transfer Desk to process the data, such as map, lookup, assign to and function. Use Format Designer to define a format for the source or target data file and use Transformation Designer to define the structure of the target data file. For example you can transfer the data from a flat file from another system to XML or comma delimited format.

Use External Transfer Profile Designer to create a new external transfer profile as follows:

  1. From Transfer Desk select File > New External Transfer Profile or click Create a new external transfer profile on the toolbar.
  2. Enter a unique profile name. This name is used to identify the profile in Transfer Desk.
  3. Enter a description for the external transfer profile.
  4. Select a source data format for the external data to be transferred. The source runtime options relevant to the source data format are displayed.
  5. Select a target data format for the converted data. The target runtime options relevant to the converted data file are displayed. The number and content of the runtime options tabs vary depending on the source or target data format you have selected.
    Overridable
Each of the Overridable check boxes determine whether the relevant runtime option can be overridden during the transfer process.
  6. Create a new transformation or edit an existing transformation by clicking New or Edit next to the Transformation field.
  7. Click OK. You can use the '*' asterisk wild-card, and the '?' question mark, when entering the source and target file names.
