Creating a new drill

Note: The current filter type and available data items are displayed.
Note: If you create more than one drill for a data item, each drill is shown in the Drill Edit dialog as a separate tab.

To create a new drill:

  1. Highlight the required data item on the list.
  2. Double click on the item. Or, from the File menu select New.
The Create New Drill Association dialog is displayed.
  3. Specify this information:
    Lookup Code
Characters that can be used for lookup codes are A-Z (upper case) and a-z (lower case) from the English alphabet, plus '-' hyphen and '_' underscore.
The lookup code is verified as unique for the given filter type and a new filter is created with the supplied details. If the lookup code is not unique, an error message is displayed and you are prompted for a different lookup code.
You can see lookup codes that have already been used in order to avoid duplication. Click the Query button in the Lookup Code field.
    Description
Include a description for the new drill association.
    Drill Filter
Select a filter from the drop-down list. You can only drill to a filter if it contains runtime parameters. If it does not contain any, a warning message is displayed.
    Drill Type
Select one option from either Drill Down or Drill Around:
    • Use Drill Down to inquire further on a transaction line. You can drill down to the information contained in the transaction header or detail. For example, if you highlight a row containing item code = ABC100, you can drill down to Static Data Maintenance Item Inquiry for all details regarding ABC100.
    • Use Drill Around to invoke another business function related to the contents of the current field. For example, from an item code on a purchase order line, you can drill around to all purchase invoice lines for that item code; or from purchase invoices to purchase orders, you can drill around to all orders matched to a specific invoice line.
    Take value from calling function
Select this option to prevent the display of a runtime parameter form when a user drills from a control desk. If the option is not selected then a runtime form is displayed.
  4. Click OK to save your changes.

The available run time parameters for the filter are displayed in the Run Time Parameters dialog.

You may now wish to associate data source items to run time parameters or map a form to your drill.
