Action on Compensating Controls

A compensating control contains the information that supports the existence of a rule violation. After creating a compensating control, you can take various actions on it such as enabling a compensating control or disabling a compensating control, associating the compensating control to a rule, review a compensating control, or delete a compensating control. Use this page to perform the actions listed below.

This page enables you to perform these actions:
  • Disable a compensating control
    Disabled compensating controls cannot be used to mitigate violations. You can disable a compensating control in one of the following ways:
    • From the Compensating Controls page - Click the Enabled icon to disable the compensating control.
    • Through the More actions menu - Select the compensating control to be disabled, click the more actions icon and then click Disable. The page to disable the compensating control is displayed.

    To disable a compensating control

    1. On the Compensating Controls page, click the check box next to the compensating control to be disabled.
    2. Click the More Actions icon  and click Disable. The page to disable the compensating control is displayed.
    3. Click Disable. A disabled compensating control appears on the Compensating Controls page with the Disabled icon next to it. You can disable multiple compensating controls at a time.

      The Rules tab on this page displays the rules to which the compensating control is assigned. Click the number link next to a rule to view the other compensating controls attached to this rule. The Exclusions tab displays the exclusions to which the compensating control is assigned. Click the number link next to an exclusion to view the other compensating controls attached to this exclusion.

      Note: An expired compensating control can also be disabled. An expired compensating control cannot be used to mitigate violations even if the validity period of the compensating control is extended.
  • Enable a compensating control
    Compensating controls must be enabled so that they cannot be used to mitigate violations. You can enable a compensating control in one of the following ways:
    • From the Compensating Controls page - Click the Disabled icon to enable the compensating control.
    • Through the More actions menu - Select the compensating control to be enabled, click the more actions icon and then click Enable. The page to enable the compensating control is displayed.
    To enable a compensating control:
    1. On the Compensating Controls page, click the check box next to the compensating control to be enabled.
    2. Click the More Actions icon  and click Enable. The page to enable the compensating control is displayed.
    3. Click Enable. An enabled compensating control appears on the Compensating Controls page with the Enabled icon next to it. You can disable multiple compensating controls at a time.

    The Rules tab on this page displays the rules to which the compensating control is assigned. Click the number next to a rule to view the other compensating controls attached to that rule.

    The Exclusions tab displays the exclusions to which the compensating control is assigned. Click the number next to an exclusion to view the other compensating controls attached to that exclusion.

    Note: 
    • An expired compensating control can also be enabled. An expired compensating control cannot be used to mitigate violations even if the validity period of the compensating control is extended.
    • When a compensating control expires, the system automatically sends a  notification with this information to the creator of that compensating control.
  • View details of a compensating control
    Use this feature to view the details of rules and exclusions to which a compensating control is assigned. To view a compensating control:
    1. On the Compensating Controls page , select the compensating control to be reviewed.
    2. Click the More Actions icon and then click Details. Details of the selected compensating control is displayed.
    • Rules tab
      • The Rules tab on the Review Compensating Controls page displays the rules to which the compensating control is assigned. By default, all assigned rules are displayed. To refine your search, select a search filter from the drop-down list.
      • The number next to a rule indicates other compensating controls attached to that rule. Click on the number to view the other compensating controls.
      • The Source column displays whether the compensating control is attached to the base rule or via a parameter list.
      • The Rule Book column displays the name of the rule book containing the rule.
    • Exclusions tab
      • The Exclusions tab displays the excluded objects to which the compensating control is assigned. By default, all exclusions to which the compensating control is assigned are displayed. To refine your search, select a search filter from the drop-down list.
      • The number next to an exclusion indicates other compensating controls attached to that exclusion. Click on the number to view the other compensating controls.
      • The Source column displays whether the compensating control is attached to the base rule or via a parameter list.
      • The Parameter column displays the parameter used, if a compensating control is linked to a parameter list.
      • The Value column displays the actual exclusion value, if the exclusion is from a parameter list.
      • The Rule column displays the name of the rule containing the exclusion. The name of the rule book containing this rule is also displayed below the rule name.
    Note: If objects are excluded through a parameter list, the count on this page displays the values for these objects. For example, the object excluded may be 1 user, but the count on this page may display 5 for five different users who were excluded.
  • Delete a compensating control
    Deleted compensating controls cannot be used to mitigate violations. Delete an unwanted compensating control as follows:
    1. On the Compensating Controls page, select the compensating control to be deleted.
    2. Click the Delete icon. The page to delete the compensating control is displayed.
    3. A confirmation message is displayed. Click OK to delete the compensating control.
    The Rules tab on this page displays the rules to which the compensating control is assigned. Click the number next to a rule to view the other compensating controls attached to that rule.

    The Exclusions tab displays the exclusions to which the compensating control is assigned. Click the number next to an exclusion to view the other compensating controls attached to that exclusion.
