Changing the User Management link

By default, the data of the User Management are stored in the same database as the other data of the repository. It can be useful, however, to create one central User Management for different repositories, if, for example, several different business databases are used by identical users. To this end, you configure a connection to another repository in the User Management properties, so that User Management and other repository data are stored in different databases. The connection information to the linked User Management is stored in the repository.

Note:
  • To edit the user management link, you require the permission Administer User Management Link:

    Repository Permission Management

  • If the repository uses an external User Management, you can reset the user management link using a shortcut-menu command. It is not necessary to connect to the repository database. For example, use this option when you experience problems with the external User Management:

    Resetting User Management link

To change the User Management link for a repository registration:

  1. Right-click the repository registration in the tree and select Connect.
  2. Right-click the User Management node and select Properties. The User Management Properties dialog opens.
  3. On the Database tab, you can select one of these options:
Use user management of current Repository
Select this option to use the User Management of the repository to which you are currently connected.
Use user management of another Repository
Select this option to use a different User Management. Click the drop-down list under Repository registration. The configuration source types Enterprise and Service are shown. Expand one of the configuration source types and select the repository registration that must be used to link to the User Management. The connection string of the User Management database is shown below.
  4. To apply the changes, click OK. When you are prompted to confirm that you want to save the changes, click Yes. Your repository will be disconnected and connected again automatically.
Note: If you are working with auditing in repository database that are joined by user management links, you must consistently enable auditing across all joined repository databases:
    • When you define a user management link in the current repository in which auditing is inactive to a User Management repository in which auditing is enabled, auditing will also be enabled for the current repository. This message is shown: Auditing is enabled for the selected User Management Repository. It will be enabled also for the current Repository. This action cannot be rolled back once it is performed.
    • When you define a user management link in the current repository in which auditing is enabled to a User Management repository in which auditing is inactive, the next logon to such a repository with link to the User Management repository will fail. You must reset the user management link, enable auditing in the User Management repository as well, and then set up the user management link again.
    • Audit entries that relate to user management are always stored in the linked database where the changes are done.
