Configurations

When you create a repository registration, you assign the registration to a configuration source:

Configuration sources and dependencies

When you assign a registration to a configuration source, you specify, for which applications the settings of the repository databases are used. These configuration types are available:

  • The user-dependant configuration
  • The computer configuration
  • The enterprise configuration
  • The service configuration

The accessibility and the scope of the configuration result from the saving location of the configuration file CommonObjectStore.config.

Log settings are also differentiated by user-dependant and computer configuration:

Logging

Configuration Type Description
User-dependant configuration Repository data and log settings of this configuration are valid for the user who is logged on. They are used by client applications, which are not contained in the list of the computer processes.

The user-dependant configuration may depend on the computer or on the enterprise configurations.

See Dependencies between configurations.

Computer configuration Repository data and log settings of registrations of this configuration are used for user-independent system services. For example, server settings may be changed by users who are logged on to the computer and who have the required rights for the repository. You specify the applications which access the repository by the computer configuration in a process list, for example, new services or servers.
