Data links and ODBC connections

To access a source database, Connector uses Data Links and ODBC connections. Data Links unify data access and classify business data. Business units, accounts, ledgers, and periods are recognized automatically by the Data Link: the access to the structure of the source database is greatly simplified by Data Link. Since a Data Link is adapted to the database structure, you require various Data Links for different types of source databases.

ODBC connections establish the connection to a data source. These may be relational data sources (SQL Server, Oracle, Access or others), text files (.txt-, csv-files and others) and Excel. To get a complete list of available data source drivers, open the ODBC Data Source Administrator dialog. ODBC data sources do not contain categorization information.

When the ODBC connection is enabled tables that contain a primary key which consists of only one field, will be categorized as dimension tables.
