Inserting a formula

The Period and Product dimensions provide the x and y axes of the report that you created in 'inserting two overlapping hyperblocks'. To populate the report with data, we will insert an OLAP formula into the data cell in cell C11, which is shared by both hyperblocks.

To insert an OLAP formula:

  1. Open the Tutorial1 report.
  2. In Design Mode, click cell C11.
  3. Click Edit OLAP Formula in the Objects toolbar.
The Objects toolbar is a vertical toolbar at the left of the report.
  4. In the Edit OLAP Formula dialog, click OK.
A value is displayed in cell C11.
  5. Click View Mode.
You can expand the Product dimension vertically and the Period dimension horizontally. You can drill down the data from All Products to a single product in a single quarter or month of a selected year.
  6. Save the report.
In Design Mode, the Formula Editor at the top of the worksheet displays the formula when you click the value in C11. Notice that the formula starts =ROC. An ROC formula is a Read Only Cell formula. ROC is one of many formulas which you can use in Application Studio.

Some formulas, like ROC, can be created in the Edit OLAP Formula dialog, or by specifying them directly in a cell. In ROC formulas, the order in which you specify the dimensions and elements is important. For this reason, we recommend using the Edit OLAP Formula dialog.
