POVs
Point of views (POVs) are a way of standardizing the appearance of several reports. A POV can contain up to 10 POV objects. These are combo boxes which are shared by the reports in a folder. They appear in the POV bar at the top of the reports when you select
.Creating POVs
You can create POVs in any of the report modes.
SeeDesign Mode, Debug Mode, and View Mode.
To create a POV, right-click a folder or report in the Report Catalog and select POV Setting dialog is displayed.

The Edit POV dialog
Specify a name for the POV or click the button and select a name from the Texts dialog. The name is displayed next to the POV object at the top of each report.
The Unique name field contains the unique name of the POV object. By default, POV objects are named NewPointofView[N], where N is a sequential number. You can specify a different name. The name appears as a tooltip in Design Mode.
From Select a list, select a list to link to the POV object.
From the Format list, select a format for the list elements (for example, unique name or caption). Click POV Setting dialog.

There are three columns: Unique name, Visible and Selection. The unique name is displayed as a tooltip in Design Mode.
In the Selection field, select which element is displayed in the POV when a report is opened.
To hide a POV from reports, clear the
check box.POV objects are referenced in OLAP Server formulas as:
GlobalPOVs.[Unique name of POV].Text
Creating POVs by drag and drop
To create a POV by drag and drop:
- Open Design Mode.
- Drag a list from the Database Structure and drop it on the Point of View bar when a red square appears on the bar.
When adding further POV objects by drag and drop, a red icon appears on the bar to indicate that the object can be dropped.
POV values
Option | Description |
---|---|
<Inherit> | The POV object receives the value of the parent level of the folder structure. |
<First value> | The POV value is assigned to the list element first defined in the database. |
<Current value> | The value of a variable is assigned to the POV value. |
At the folder level, the Inherit option is not available. This is because POV variables are valid only within a single folder. So, there is no level above the folder from which a value could be inherited. At other levels, if the Inherit option is not visible, click a report in the structure tree.
Referencing POVs
You reference a POV with this syntax:
=POV.pov_unique_name.TEXT.
POV names can contain A..Z (uppercase or lowercase), 0..9 and underscore (_).
POV layout
In Design Mode, you can change the layout and appearance of POV objects. The formats you specify for one POV object apply to all POV objects. You cannot specify a different format for each.
To edit the POV layout, double-click the folder in which the POV is defined and select
.Click the POV. The object container is displayed, with a hashed border around it and white handles.
Editing the POV container
These dialogs control the appearance of the POV bar and POV objects:
- The Object Container dialog
- The POV Name Edit dialog
- The List Selection Object Edit dialog.
Double-click different parts of the object container to open the different dialogs.
The Object Container dialog
Double-click the hashed border of the POV container. The Object Container dialog opens. Or, right-click the border and select .

- Specify the pattern, frame and shading of the POV container. The Sample section of the dialog displays a preview of the effects.
- Properties tab
- Specify the size of the POV container or drag the handles of the object container to resize it.
Creating and deleting components of the POV containers
Right-click the POV container, and select
. Select the component to insert. To delete a component, click on the toolbar.Aligning and sizing components
Open the POV layout and double-click a component. The dialog appropriate to the object is displayed. Click the Properties tab and name the object. Specify the size of the object or select .
Specify the alignment of the object in relation to the container and other objects.

Note: If the list that the POV is based on is not hierarchical, the POV can only be displayed
in a list box.

Logo configuration
Select
check box and click to go to the logo file.In the Properties section, select Position mode or Tile mode. In Position mode, position the logo on the background by clicking one of the position buttons. In Tile mode, the image is repeated on the background.
If the logo image is smaller than the object container, you can stretch it to fit by selecting the
check box. This may distort the image.To make parts of the logo transparent, select the Choose Transparent Color dialog. Click the area of the logo that you want to make transparent.
