Creating slice dimensions with the Olap Metadata hierarchy

You might use the Olap Metadata hierarchy to create a list of slice dimensions in a report.

This example is based on the Best Practices sample database.

See Connecting to the sample database:

  1. Drag the Olap Metadata hierarchy into a cell to create a hyperblock.
  2. Select the hyperblock and open the Structure Selection pane of the List Designer.
  3. In the Children of field, select Analysis.
    The report displays the seven dimensions of the Analysis cube.
You could then, for example, create a Select Element action in the hyperblock to enable users to select an element from each dimension, and pass their selection to a variable.
