Sorting Columns in a Classic Designer Report

In Classic Designer there are two ways to sort columns in a standard report, depending on whether you are using the flex grid or formatted table display.

For information about sorting columns in a pivot report, see Sorting Columns in a Pivot Report.

Up-and-down arrows indicate the column is not sorted. A down arrow indicates the column is sorted in descending order. An up arrow indicates the column is sorted in ascending order.

To sort columns in a report table using the formatted view

1. When Formatted is selected in the toggle at the top of the Designer page, click on a column header in a report table and select Sort from the menu. The Column Sorting dialog box opens.
2. For each report column, select whether to sort in ascending order, descending order, or leave unsorted.  You can sort on multiple columns.
Tips:

The Display Sorting box should only be checked if you need to sort the column after the database query has run. This is necessary when using the BQL TRANSFORM function.

A column that contains a ratio type expression cannot be sorted correctly due to the way the value is calculated.

3. To change the order in which the columns are sorted, drag and drop columns up or down to reorder them. This does not affect the position of the columns in the report table. The column on top will be sorted first.
4. Click Save. The sorting you specified will be applied to the report table.

To sort columns in a report table using the flex grid view

1. When Grid is selected in the toggle at the top of the Designer page, click on a column header in a report table to sort the column in ascending order. Click again to sort in descending order.
2. To sort on more than one column, Ctrl-click another column to add it to the sort. The sorting applies immediately to the report table.

Tip: When using the flex grid table display, right-click on a column header to access the column options menu.
