Creating an RWC formula

In this procedure, we will make the Forecast column in E11 writable so that users can write values to the database.

  1. Click E11.
Notice that, in the Formula Editor at the top of the worksheet, the formula begins =ROC. An ROC formula is a Read Only Cell formula.
  2. Click Edit OLAP Formula. Select Allow writeback of values and click OK.
The formula in the Formula Editor now begins =RWC. Cell E11 is now a Read Write Cell. Cells C11, D11, and E11 now contain the Actual, Budget, and Forecast figures from the Valtype dimension.
  3. Specify the labels, Actual, Budget, and Forecast in cells C9, D9, and E9 respectively.
German translations of these labels already exist in the Table of Names and Texts.
  4. Use Translateuniquestring to ensure that the labels are translated if the report language is changed. See Translating labels for details.
  5. In View mode, select Size to display all individual tires.
  6. Specify a forecast value for one of the tires and press Enter.
Note that, if you try to write back against a consolidated element, for example, all tires, you get an error. Handling the writeback error and the splashing settings are outside the scope of this tutorial.
  7. Save the report and then create a copy called Tutorial7.
